Biography

Guang Yang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary. He specializes in developmental neurobiology and molecular biology of diseases. His research focuses on the mechanisms by which neural stem cells generate neurons in the brain, as well as how perturbations in these processes can lead to neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and schizophrenia. Yang's laboratory utilizes a multidisciplinary approach, integrating single-gene studies with genome-wide analyses to explore gene expression dynamics during brain development. Current projects investigate the translational regulation of neurogenesis, the generation of neuron subtypes, and the influences of prenatal environments on genetic programs governing embryonic brain structure and function. Through understanding the complex interactions between genes and environmental factors, Yang aims to contribute to the field of neurobiology and build connections between basic research and clinical applications.
