Biography

Guannan Qu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, having joined in September 2021. He received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, in 2014, followed by a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University in 2019. Prior to his current position, he was a CMI Resnick postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Computing and Mathematical Sciences at the California Institute of Technology from 2019 to 2021. Qu's research interests encompass control, optimization, and machine/reinforcement learning applications within power systems, multi-agent systems, the Internet of Things, and smart cities. He has been recognized with several awards such as the Caltech Simoudis Discovery Award, PIMCO Fellowship, Amazon AI4Science Fellowship, and the IEEE SmartGridComm Student Paper Award.
