Biography

Guannan Qu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University since September 2021. He received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China in 2014, and his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University in 2019. Prior to joining CMU, he was a CMI Resnick postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Computing and Mathematical Sciences at the California Institute of Technology from 2019 to 2021. Qu has received several awards including the Caltech Simoudis Discovery Award, the PIMCO Fellowship, and the Amazon AI4Science Fellowship. His research interests focus on control and optimization, with applications in machine and reinforcement learning, power systems, multi-agent systems, the Internet of Things, and smart cities.
