Biography

Guanshu Liu is an associate professor at Johns Hopkins Medicine, specifically within the Department of Radiology and Radiological Science, and holds a joint appointment at the F.M. Kirby Research Center for Functional Brain Imaging. His research primarily involves the development and application of a novel MRI technique known as chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST). Liu's team is focused on creating a range of nanoparticle-based CEST imaging probes that exhibit low toxicity, high sensitivity, and high specificity, alongside exploring biomedical applications of endogenous CEST contrast. Among their ongoing projects is an examination of using the endogenous CEST MRI signal from bacterial organisms to detect and monitor bacterial infections in rodent models. Liu obtained his Bachelor's degree in Applied Chemistry from the University of Science and Technology of China in 1998, followed by a Master of Science in Photochemistry and Photobiology from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2001 and another Master's in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 2003. He completed his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University in 2008 before joining the Johns Hopkins staff as a research associate.
