Gueorgui Kostov Gueorguiev is a project leader and expert in theoretical design and experimental verification of nanostructured low-dimensional materials. He completed his PhD in Theoretical Physics, focusing on the structural and electronic properties of carbon- and silicon-based clusters at the University of Coimbra, Portugal, in 2003, graduating with exceptional marks ('Cum Laude') through a prestigious fellowship from the Instituto Camões. Since 2004, he has been associated with Linköping University (LiU) in Sweden, where he has initiated a new line of research dedicated to the theoretical design of nanostructured carbon-based thin films with predefined properties for immediate experimental verification. His research interests encompass the expansion of two-dimensional van der Waals structures, layered compounds, and their applications in coatings for aviation technologies. Gueorguiev employs theoretical approaches that include first-principles effective methods in computational materials science and synthesis techniques involving magnetron sputtering, MOCVD, and atomic-layer deposition. He also holds an MSc in Portuguese language literature from Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, Bulgaria, obtained in 1997. Gueorguiev is the initiator and leader of the LiU-UFBA Research Education Network, which has been operational for over 10 years, generating impactful results in research and education ties between Linköping University and the Federal University of Bahia in Brazil, among other collaborations.
