Professor Dr. Guglielmo Scovazzi

Biography

Guglielmo Scovazzi received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Aerospace Engineering, summa cum laude, from Politecnico di Torino, Italy, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. He previously served as a Senior Member of Technical Staff at the Computer Science Research Institute of Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM. His extensive research focuses on advanced numerical methods in computational fluid-solid mechanics, emphasizing accurate computational methods aimed at reducing overall design and analysis costs across complex engineering challenges. Scovazzi leads investigations on multiphase porous media flows, turbulent flows under extreme load conditions, and fluid-structure interactions, making significant contributions to the development of robust computational techniques. His work is recognized for its impact on a variety of applications, including intricate geometries in solid mechanics and fluid dynamics. In addition to his research, he is dedicated to teaching and mentoring students in various courses related to finite element analysis, turbulent flow computations, and mechanical engineering projects.
