Biography

Guillermo Sapiro is a distinguished researcher specializing in image and video processing, computer vision, and machine learning. He received his B.Sc. (summa cum laude), M.Sc., and Ph.D. from the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, in 1989, 1991, and 1993, respectively. Following his Ph.D., he conducted post-doctoral research at MIT and subsequently joined HP Labs as a Member of Technical Staff. He has held numerous prestigious positions, including Distinguished McKnight University Professor at the University of Minnesota and currently serves as a James B. Duke Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Duke University in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Throughout his career, he has authored or co-authored over 300 papers and has contributed significantly to various fields including biomedical imaging and computational tools for early diagnosis of psychiatric disorders. Sapiro is a member of several honorary societies, including the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. He has received numerous awards for his scholarly contributions, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. Guillermo Sapiro is also the founding Editor-in-Chief of the SIAM Journal on Imaging Sciences and continues to influence the field through his research and publications.
