Biography

I am a Lecturer in Evolutionary Anthropology at University College London. My research focuses on human behavior, culture, and cognition from an evolutionary perspective. In 2013, I conducted fieldwork in the Congo rainforest, studying the Mbendjele BaYaka hunter-gatherers. I was awarded the British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship from 2018 to 2022 to pursue my research on cultural evolution among hunter-gatherers. I hold a PhD in Evolutionary Anthropology from UCL and a research-focused Master's in Evolutionary Biology from Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, where I conducted research in the Netherlands, France, and Canada. My academic journey began with an undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Istanbul Technical University, where I developed an interest in Ecology and Evolution. Additionally, I have experience communicating science through popular blogs and videos. Outside of academia, I enjoy open water swimming and salsa dancing.
