Dr. Gunalan Nadarajan

Biography

Gunalan Nadarajan is an art theorist and curator working at the intersections of art, science, and technology. He is a professor at the Penny W. Stamps School of Art and Design at the University of Michigan. His notable publications include 'Ambulations' (2000), 'Construction Site' (edited; 2004), and 'Place Studies in Art, Media, Science, and Technology: Historical Investigations Sites Migration Knowledge' (co-edited; 2009). Nadarajan has authored over 100 book chapters, catalogue essays, academic articles, and reviews that have been translated into 16 languages. He has served on the editorial board for the book series 'Technicities' and the journal 'Cultural Politics'. Nadarajan has curated numerous international exhibitions and has contributed extensively to the field of media arts. He has been involved in various artistic directorships and advisory roles and co-founded the Network for Science, Engineering, Art, and Design to enhance collaborative research and education. Nadarajan has also served on several boards and committees focused on integrating the arts and sciences in higher education. He was the dean of the Penny W. Stamps School from 2012 to 2022 and has held various academic roles at institutions such as the Maryland Institute College of Art and the Pennsylvania State University.
