Dr. Gunilla Hermansson

Biography

Gunilla Hermansson is a Professor and the Deputy Head of the Department at the University of Gothenburg. She has a distinguished academic background with a focus on Nordic literature, having studied at the University of Copenhagen, where she earned her Ph.D. in 2003. Her thesis was on C.J.L. Almqvist's 'Törnrosens bok'. In her career, she has published five monographs on various aspects of Nordic literature, particularly from the romantic and modernist periods. Hermansson’s work integrates historical interests and theoretical reflections, exploring literary historiography and the interplay of form and aesthetics. Her recent projects include 'Reclaiming Northern Past', examining Old Norse literature's impact on national and transnational identities. She has held various leadership roles within the department, including responsibilities for doctoral studies. Hermansson has also contributed to numerous scholarly articles and publications, focusing on topics such as expressionism, Nordic modernism, and transnational feminist perspectives in literature.
