Dr. Gunnar Almevik

Biography

Gunnar Almevik is a Professor at the University of Gothenburg specializing in heritage conservation. He has extensive teaching experience across bachelor, master, and doctoral levels, engaging in various pedagogical activities including lectures, supervision, and course development. He founded the Vocational College of Heritage Crafts and has been actively involved in crafting curricula for heritage studies. Almevik's research primarily focuses on intangible cultural heritage, the history of buildings and built environments, and digital documentation methods. He established the Craft Laboratory at the University of Gothenburg, which aims to preserve endangered craft practices and promote sustainable approaches to heritage conservation. His work involves collaboration with the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History, and Antiquities, and he has supervised several doctoral students in the field of heritage craft research. Almevik's PhD thesis was recognized for its contribution to historical research in the domain of built environments.
