Dr. Gunnar Rimmel

Biography

Gunnar Rimmel is a Professor and Chair in Accounting Sustainability Reporting at Aalborg University Business School, leading the Accounting Research Group. He has previously held the position of Full Professor in Accounting at Jönköping International Business School and has significant experience in leading research programs focusing on integrated and sustainability reporting. Rimmel obtained his PhD in 2003 from the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg, where he explored Human Resource Disclosures. Over the past 15 years, he has attracted millions in competitive funding for various research initiatives and has published numerous articles in prestigious international journals. His current research interests include the impact of mandatory sustainability reporting and stakeholder engagement in accounting practices. Rimmel is actively involved in several academic associations, serving on editorial boards and committees, and has contributed to the development of guidelines for new European Sustainability Reporting Standards. He continues to engage with the research community through conferences and collaborative projects. His teaching encompasses diverse topics within accounting, especially those related to sustainability and non-financial disclosures.
