Biography

Guri Sohi received his Ph.D. in Electrical Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1985 and is currently a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, holding the positions of John P. Morgridge Professor and E. David Cronon Professor in the Department of Computer Sciences. His research focuses on designing high-performance computer systems, and he has co-authored influential papers and patents in the field. Notably, his work on instruction issue logic, high-performance, interruptible pipelined processors has been widely adopted by microprocessor manufacturers. He has contributed to the understanding of non-blocking memory systems and the concept of multiscalar processors. Over his career, Sohi has graduated 18 Ph.D. students who now hold prominent academic positions. Among his accolades are the ACM SIGARCH Maurice Wilkes award and recognition as a Fellow of ACM and IEEE, as well as membership in the National Academy of Engineering. Sohi continues to lead research in multithreading models and communication prediction for future microprocessors.
