Biography

Gurjit Randhawa is an Assistant Professor in the School of Computer Science at the University of Guelph. He completed his Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Computer Science at the University of Western Ontario. Following the completion of his Ph.D., he held a position as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo for one year. Thereafter, he joined the School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences at the University of Prince Edward Island, serving as an Assistant Professor for three years. In 2024, he joined the School of Computer Science at the University of Guelph as an Assistant Professor. His research focuses on applying machine learning to solve complex challenges in the domains of genomics, bioinformatics, and precision agriculture. This includes exploring genomic mutational signatures through analysis of genomic sequence data and developing autonomous systems to enhance farming efficiency and sustainability. His work has provided valuable insights into the mechanisms of adaptation in organisms and has potential applications in biotechnology and environmental management. Currently, he is working on projects related to precision agriculture using intelligent farming tools, particularly in disease detection and management.
