Dr. Gus Gazzard

Biography

Gus Gazzard is a Professor of Ophthalmology specializing in glaucoma studies at University College London. He is a leading figure in the field of glaucoma treatment, with a focus on angle closure glaucoma and selective laser trabeculoplasty. Gazzard established the Chief Investigator role for a six-year NIHR-HTA funded multi-centre LiGHT trial, which evaluated the effectiveness of selective laser trabeculoplasty. His extensive background includes a Clinical Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital and a Research Fellowship under Professor Peng Khaw in Singapore, where he led several established clinical trials. Additionally, he is a member of the EAGLE Study Group, which conducts multi-centre randomized controlled trials on early lens extraction in angle-closure glaucoma. Gazzard has also served as the Clinical Director at Moorfields South and has been involved in educational roles at St George’s teaching hospital. He co-founded the European Glaucoma Society Special Interest Group on angle closure and has been awarded multiple degrees, including an MD from University College London. As a staunch advocate for advancing the treatment of glaucoma, he continually contributes to both clinical and academic advancements in the field.
