Biography

Guy Breton was the 11th rector of the University of Montreal. An eminent professor at the Faculty of Medicine and a trained radiologist, he has been teaching at UdeM since 1979, where he has also served as department director and executive vice-dean at the Faculty of Medicine. Breton's leadership roles included significant administrative responsibilities that never diverted him from teaching and research. He is credited with contributing to the University of Montreal's influence, maintaining an active medical practice with patients and students. He has authored or co-authored about a hundred scientific publications and has been involved in over thirty research projects while developing several minimally invasive imaging and intervention techniques. Notably, he played a crucial role in the development of the University of Montreal Hospital Center project as vice-president of the implementation company and director of planning from 2010. Breton has received several prestigious distinctions, including the Albert-Jutras Award from the Canadian French Radiology Society, highlighting his remarkable career in hospital and academic settings. He became a member of the Order of Canada in 2014 and received honorary doctorates from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the University of Compiegne's Technologies.
