He joined the Southampton Electrochemistry Group and carried out experimental and theoretical investigations into the application of ultramicroelectrodes and mechanistic kinetic studies of coupled chemical reactions. He received a Ph.D. in 1989, then moved to the University of Texas at Austin to work with Allen Bard on the development of a scanning electrochemical microscope (SECM). After returning to Southampton, he took a five-year EPSRC Advanced Research Fellowship to continue the development of the SECM technique. He was appointed Lecturer in 1993, Senior Lecturer in 2000, and Associate Professor in 2014. Denuault served as a visiting professor at various institutions and became a Fellow at the Hanse Institute for Advanced Study in 2011. His research has led him to deliver postgraduate courses overseas and present invited seminars both in the UK and abroad. He has supervised numerous theses and has a significant background in electrochemical research and methodologies.
