Biography

Guy Roth is an Associate Professor and Director of Northern Agriculture at the University of Sydney's Narrabri Campus. With over 25 years of experience as a scientist, research manager, and educator in agriculture, he has significantly contributed to enhancing productivity for farmers and fostering sustainable rural communities. Guy chaired the National Primary Industries Water Use in Agriculture, Research Development & Extension Strategy and led the national project 'Smarter Irrigation for Profit,' which focuses on industries including cotton, dairy, rice, and sugarcane. He previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Cotton Catchment Communities Cooperative Research Centre. Guy has been recognized with the Cotton Industry’s Researcher of the Year Award for his outstanding contributions. His research interests include crop water relations, soil management, dryland cropping systems, remote sensing, digital precision agriculture, food provenance, irrigation scheduling, and agricultural sustainability reporting. As a lecturer at the University of New England, he focused on agronomy and soil science and has been actively involved in supervising PhD and master's students while also teaching various agricultural courses. His work aligns with the Faculty of Science's Research Strengths in understanding life and earth, cultivating scientific capability, and ensuring food security.
