Guy Simpson obtained his PhD from ETH Zurich in 1998 and subsequently performed postdoctoral research at Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris. He joined the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Geneva in Switzerland in 2007 as a senior lecturer. His main research interests include faulting, earthquakes, crust, fluid heat flow in porous media, and landscape evolution, primarily investigated using numerical models. Simpson has authored numerous research articles addressing a wide range of scientific problems and has published a textbook about applying the Finite Element Method in Earth science, which provides practical insights into finite element modeling using MATLAB.
