Dr. Gwendolyn Gosek

Biography

Gwendolyn Gosek is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Victoria. Her work is particularly focused on Indigenous child welfare services, and she has a strong interest in the experiences of frontline child welfare social workers. Gosek is a proud member of the Lac La Ronge Nations and has Cree/Dene and Norwegian ancestry. She is committed to community work that is centered around crisis intervention, particularly for Indigenous youth and women seeking shelter. Gosek obtained her BA in Political Studies, BSW, and MSW from the University of Manitoba, and earned her PhD from the University of Victoria. Her studies focus on the perceptions of frontline workers regarding culturally-based practices, world views, and the context of Indigenous women’s organizations within the child welfare sector. Gosek's contributions extend to various symposiums and education initiatives, specifically addressing Indigenous learning challenges and support mechanisms.
