Dr. Gwilym Morris

Biography

Gwilym Morris is a Consultant Cardiologist and Cardiac Electrophysiologist with extensive experience in clinical translational research. He studied Medicine and Physiological Sciences at the University of Oxford, graduating in 2001, before pursuing postgraduate medical training in the North West. His PhD research, conducted under the supervision of Professor Mark Boyett, focused on ion channel expression in the heart's pacemaker, exploring gene therapy as a method to prevent sinus node disease. The findings of his PhD laid the groundwork for further investigations into the causes of cardiac arrhythmias in athletes. Morris’s clinical research aims to enhance the outcomes and safety of cardiac ablation procedures. He has received prestigious fellowships from the British Heart Foundation, allowing him to study atrial fibrillation mechanisms and their connections with common heart rhythm disorders. His qualifications also include clinical cardiology specialty training, and he actively publishes his research findings in notable journals.
