Dr. Gyorgy Baffy

Biography

Gyorgy Baffy is an adjunct associate professor at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and a chief gastroenterologist at the VA Boston Healthcare System. His educational background includes an MD from the University of Debrecen and a PhD from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Dr. Baffy's research primarily focuses on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, particularly outcomes prediction, biomarkers of lipotoxicity, and metabolic reprogramming in connection to cancer bioenergetics and hepatocellular carcinoma. He has contributed to over 60 peer-reviewed publications and is actively involved in clinical trials related to colorectal cancer screening. Dr. Baffy has participated in various scientific review panels and serves in editorial roles for gastroenterology and hepatology journals. Furthermore, he has organized workshops and symposiums at major conferences. As a Fulbright Scholar in 2014, he taught about contemporary issues in obesity-related disorders at the University of Debrecen. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, American Gastroenterological Association, and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, and has received several awards, such as the Fulbright Scholar Award and the Madaus Prize.
