Biography

Gyungah R. Jun is a globally renowned geneticist with expertise in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and innovative contributions through the Alzheimer’s Disease Genetics Consortium (ADGC) and the International Genomics Alzheimer’s Project (IGAP). A recognized leader in the field, she currently chairs multiple working groups focused on identifying AD risk genes, particularly through the analysis of the APOE genotype subgroups. Dr. Jun serves as the Director and Head of Neurogenetics at the Integrated Genomics Andover Innovative Medicines Institute at Eisai Inc., maintaining an independent research program at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) since her transition to private industry in 2015. Her research has fundamentally changed the approach to understanding the genetic mechanisms underlying AD, with significant breakthroughs such as the discovery of genetic variants at the MAPT/KANSL1 locus associated with increased risk in APOE4 carriers. An advocate for diversity and inclusion in genetic research, Dr. Jun has contributed to the establishment of the Asian Cohort Alzheimer's Disease Consortium to address the ethnic disparities in genetic risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease. Through her pioneering work in genetic studies and translational research, Dr. Jun continues to lead innovative projects aimed at developing therapeutic concepts to combat Alzheimer’s disease.
