Gyungju Chyon’s work focuses on the relationships between designed objects, environments, and people, particularly in engaging with natural phenomena and exploring materialities. She is interested in delving into technological performance while seeking deeper, meaningful connections among objects, environments, and people concerning health, well-being, and ecological living. Gyungju is partnered with Dr. John Sadar in the design studio Wonder, which interpolates installations with product design. Wonder has collaborated with international companies including Rosenthal (Germany), Interface (USA), Duravit (Germany), Emotis (France), and Lucifer Lighting (USA). Her work has been exhibited globally across Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia, and has been published in prominent design magazines such as I.D., Metropolis, and Domus, as well as in academic publications through conferences and journals. Before joining the Department of Spatial Design at Monash University, she served as an assistant professor in MFA Industrial Design and BFA Product Design at Parsons School of Design in New York. Gyungju earned her PhD from RMIT University in Melbourne and holds a Master’s degree in furniture and interior architecture from Aalto University in Helsinki, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in industrial design from Hongik University in Seoul.
