Haibo Li is a full Professor at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. He received his Technical Doctor Degree in Information Theory from Linköping University, Sweden, in 1993, where his doctoral thesis focused on advanced facial image analysis and synthesis techniques for low bitrate video. In 1994, he was awarded the Nordic PhD Thesis Award, and by 1997, he obtained the title of Docent in Image Coding. During his tenure at Linköping University, he developed innovative image and video compression algorithms, focusing on extremely low bitrate video compression and 3D video transmission, as well as teleoperation and telepresence technologies. In 1999, Professor Li joined Umeå University as a full professor in Signal Processing, establishing the Digital Media Lab and co-founding the Umeå Center for Interaction Technology (UCIT), where he worked on advancing human-thing information interaction techniques. He has played a significant role in creating and developing key academic programs at Umeå University, including the Civilingenjörprogram in Design Interaction (Doit). Currently, at KTH, he leads the Media Lab in the MID and directs Master’s programs in Media Technology. He is actively involved in international conferences and MPEG activities related to low bitrate video compression, has contributed to multiple EU projects, has published over 250 technical papers and holds six international patents in the field of multimedia and artificial intelligence.
