Dr. Haifan Lin

Biography

Haifan Lin is the Eugene Higgins Professor of Cell Biology at Yale School of Medicine and a Professor of Genetics, Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences, and Dermatology. He is the founding director of the Yale Stem Cell Center. Lin's research focuses on the mechanisms of self-renewal in stem cells, employing models such as Drosophila germline stem cells and mouse embryonic stem cells. He earned a B.S. from Fudan University in 1982 and a Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1990. He began his academic career at Duke University Medical School in 1994, where he founded the Duke Stem Cell Research Program. After joining Yale in 2006, he established the Yale Stem Cell Center, which is one of the largest stem cell research organizations globally. Lin is recognized for his contributions to understanding stem cell division and gene regulation pathways, particularly the Piwi-piRNA pathway. He has held various leadership positions in the scientific community and has received multiple prestigious awards. Lin has been a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 2018 and 2024, respectively, highlighting his significant impact in the field of stem cell research.
