Biography

Dr. Haissam Haddad is the Provincial Department Head and Professor of Cardiology at the University of Saskatchewan. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science and a Medical Doctor degree from Tichreen University, Syria. Dr. Haddad initially practiced family medicine in Syria before immigrating to Canada, where he trained in Internal Medicine at Dalhousie University and completed his Cardiology training at the University of Alberta. In July 1997, he joined the Division of Cardiology at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, where he served as Medical Director of the Heart Transplant Program and Director of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. He later joined the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, holding various leadership roles, including Director of the Heart Failure Program. Dr. Haddad has contributed significantly to the field of cardiology, participating in Canadian Cardiovascular Society consensus conferences and chairing the consensus conference on heart transplantation in 2008. He has received multiple awards for his contributions, including the Anemia Institute Research Education Award and the Canadian Heart Failure Network Excellence Award. In 2023, he was appointed to the Order of Canada for his remarkable contributions to medicine, and in 2025, he received the Saskatchewan Order of Merit for his significant contributions to the medical field in Saskatchewan.
