Biography

Before joining Stanford in 2009, Haiyan Lee taught at the University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of Hong Kong, and held post-doctoral fellowships at Cornell University and Harvard University. Her book, 'Revolution of the Heart: Genealogy of Love in China, 1900-1950,' critically explores the concept of love (qing) in the context of modern Chinese literary and cultural history. She was awarded the 2009 Joseph Levenson Prize by the Association for Asian Studies for this English-language book. Lee's research interests also extend to modern Chinese literature and popular culture; the interplay between literature and philosophy, law, anthropology; cognitive literary studies; and affect studies. Her latest work, 'A Justice: Ecology of Chinese Legal Imagination,' investigates the idea of justice through various lenses, including juridical, ethical, aesthetic, and ecological frameworks. Lee has contributed to various interdisciplinary fields and has been involved in numerous scholarly committees and editorial boards.
