Biography

Hajera Amatullah is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Systems Pharmacology and Translational Therapeutics at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. She obtained her BS in Biochemistry in 2009 and an MPH in Occupational Environmental Health in 2011, both from the University of Toronto. She completed her PhD in Physiology at the University of Toronto in 2016. Her research focuses on the role of innate immune cells in responding to environmental signals and executing specific gene programs that facilitate adaptation and ensure tissue integrity. The Amatullah lab is dedicated to understanding how chromatin integrates environmental cues to instruct transcriptional programs, which is crucial in the context of complex immune disorders such as asthma, inflammatory bowel disease, and lupus.
