Dr. Halia Koo

Biography

Halia Koo is a faculty member at Memorial University of Newfoundland, specializing in Modern Languages and Literatures. She holds a Licence ès lettres from Université de Lausanne, an A.M. from Dartmouth College, and a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. Her research interests focus on travel literature in the Francophone world, exploring themes such as exoticism, colonialism, and cosmopolitanism. She examines intercultural and transcultural issues within literature, with a particular interest in nineteenth and twentieth-century French literature. Koo's works often delve into comparative literature and the history of the arts, emphasizing the influence of women's travel narratives on modernism and ecological discourse in contemporary travel narratives. Throughout her academic career, she has published several books and articles, highlighting her contributions to modern literary studies and critical discourse in literature.
