Professor Dr. Halid Yildirim

Biography

Halid Yildirim holds a PhD in Mechanics of Materials from Aalto University, where he researched the characterization of advanced materials to ensure safe, smart, sustainable, and durable engineering designs. His research primarily focuses on developing innovative methodologies that employ materials in infrastructure, including bridges, buildings, and offshore structures, which are essential to daily life. Yildirim uses a multi-scale strategy to address problems, starting at the material level and examining properties from micro to macro levels. Through this approach, he develops methodologies that investigate materials with enhanced physical properties and durability, especially under severe environmental conditions. Moreover, he emphasizes energy conservation and the importance of understanding a material's lifecycle, integrating experimental research with computer modeling of structural materials from small-scale testing to full-scale structures. Yildirim is also actively involved in various professional committees, including leading Working Group 4 on Fatigue Estimation Categories for Faber Cost Action and serving on the Editorial Advisory Board for the International Journal of Fatigue.
