Hamed D. Ibrahim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil & Mineral Engineering at the University of Toronto. His research interests focus on hydrological modeling and improving the understanding of physical relationships between the lower atmosphere and the Earth’s surface. He studies the complex interactions that couple the atmosphere with land-surface and sea-surface divisions within the Earth’s hydrological cycle. His work includes a mechanical description of the temporal and geographical fluctuations of the water and heat cycle that underlie essential infrastructure systems, such as water supply, electricity, irrigation, fisheries, and transportation. Recently, he has examined stability regimes in ocean-atmosphere dynamical exchange in arid regions and the application of seawater desalination to address water scarcity. Hamed has a comprehensive academic background with degrees in Mathematics from Amherst College, as well as a Master's degree in Political Economy of Resources and a Master's of Science in Hydrology, both from the Colorado School of Mines, culminating in a PhD in Civil Environmental Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
