Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Hamid Garmestani. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
Hamid Garmestani is a Professor in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He obtained his Ph.D. in Theoretical Applied Mechanics from Cornell University in 1989 and holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an M.S. in Materials Science Engineering from the University of Florida. Garmestani has served as a post-doctoral fellow at Yale University and has been a faculty member in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Florida State University since 1990. His primary research interests lie in the microstructure/property relationships of textured polycrystalline materials, composites, superplastic materials, and magnetic thin film layered structures. He employs phenomenological statistical mechanics models within a computational framework to examine microstructure texture evolution and to predict effective mechanical and transport properties. His current research focuses on the processing of fuel cell materials and modeling various transport mechanical properties. He has held multiple awards, including the FAR award from NASA and the Superstar Research award from FSU-CRC. Additionally, he is a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Plasticity and serves as a reviewer for the journal Metal Transactions. Garmestani's research is supported by grants from NSF, NASA, and the Air Force.
