Dr. Hammam Aldouri

Biography

Hammam Aldouri holds a PhD in Philosophy from the Center for Research in Modern European Philosophy at Kingston University, London. He is a recipient of the Helena Rubinstein Fellowship in Critical Studies from the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program in New York. Hammam specializes in Continental philosophy and critical theory, particularly focusing on the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with a specific emphasis on the philosophical legacies of G.W.F. Hegel. His work explores theoretical problems and the practical applications of philosophy, political theory, and the art history influenced by major nineteenth-century thinkers and artists such as Hegel, Karl Marx, Charles Baudelaire, Richard Wagner, and Édouard Manet. In addition to these interests, Hammam is working on the concept of critique within contemporary academia and the potential for critical reading in the context of the real subsumption of academic labor under capital. His writings have appeared in Nineteenth-Century French Studies, Telos, Text, Journal of Art Historiography, Hegel Bulletin, Radical Philosophy, Cosmos and History, and the Oxford Art Journal.
