Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Hamzeh Hajiloo. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
Hamzeh Hajiloo is an Associate Professor in Fire Safety Engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carleton University. He joined Carleton in 2019 after completing his Ph.D. at Queen’s University. His doctoral research focused on the behavior of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforced concrete under fire conditions. Professor Hajiloo leads a research program that addresses safety in emerging sustainable construction systems, including fiber-reinforced polymers (FRP), fabric-reinforced cementitious matrices (FRCM), and mass timber. His work combines large-scale furnace testing, hybrid fire experiments, and computational modeling to enhance knowledge that informs safer design practices for modern infrastructure. A major component of his research is the assessment of structures under fire conditions, evaluating their residual capacity and extent of damage. He has played an active role in advancing international codes and standards in fire safety, serving as the Chair of ACI 216-A, and is involved in the drafting of fire safety provisions for ACI 440. As an associate member of CSA S806, he ensures that national design frameworks reflect the latest understanding of FRP systems in fire. Professor Hajiloo welcomes student inquiries in fire safety engineering and structural engineering.
