Biography

Han van Ruler is a Full Professor of Intellectual History and Vice-Dean at the Erasmus School of Philosophy, Erasmus University Rotterdam. He was awarded the NWO 'Open Competition' Research Grant for his project 'Decoding Descartes' in 2019. Van Ruler has previously held notable positions such as the President of the Dutch National 'Philosophy Month' Foundation from 2014 to 2019, Scientific Director of the Dutch Research School of Philosophy (OZSW) from 2014 to 2018, and President of the OZSW History Philosophy Section from 2014 to 2018. Additionally, he served as the President of the Dutch National Philosophy Olympiad from 2012 to 2017 and co-organized the 25th International Philosophy Olympiad in Rotterdam in 2017. He has been the General Editor of the prestigious book series Brill's Studies in Intellectual History since 2011, publishing critical research in the fields of history, philosophy, and theology. His recent work includes various publications on significant philosophical figures and topics, emphasizing interdisciplinary methods and cultural insights. Van Ruler's research supervision covers areas including Early Modern Western Philosophy, Cartesianism, and Metaphysics.
