Biography

Han Xu is a Communication Lecturer and Communication Lab Manager at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Joining the department in 2024, she previously worked as a Scientific Outreach Education Specialist at Harvard Medical School's Harvard Program in Therapeutic Science. Han obtained her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University and completed postdoctoral training at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Her research interests are focused on cell and tissue mechanics, leveraging knowledge of the mechanical properties of cells and tissues to develop treatment options. Throughout her academic journey, Han's passion for education and mentoring has grown, becoming central to her career goals. At Harvard Medical School, she developed curricula for students, designed and facilitated workshops on communication career skills, built online educational materials, and fostered diversity, equity, and inclusion dialogues. She has also collaborated with local STEM programs on outreach activities and has taken courses in evidence-based pedagogy to enhance her educational skillsets.
