Dr. Hanan El Marroun

Biography

Hanan El Marroun is an epidemiologist and neuroscientist with a focus on sensitive periods of brain development, particularly during prenatal stages and the first 1000 days of life through adolescence. Her research, which is grounded in population-based studies, explores both short- and long-term implications for maternal, fetal, and child health, in addition to addressing aspects such as behavior, cognition, brain morphology, and connectivity. El Marroun places a significant emphasis on the effects of substance use during pregnancy and adolescence. In her role at Erasmus University, she actively disseminates her research findings and imparts her expertise to students at both bachelor's and master's levels, developing general research skills and knowledge in the field.
