Haneesh Kesari is an Associate Professor of Engineering at Brown University, affiliated with the Solid Mechanics group. He is interested in theoretical and experimental mechanics problems related to contact, adhesion, and fracture of solids. He obtained his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees from Stanford University in 2011 and 2007, respectively, and his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. At Stanford, he was awarded the Juan Simo Outstanding Thesis Award and the Herbert Kunzel Fellowship. Professor Kesari's research focuses on applying tools and techniques from Solid Mechanics to understand deformation and failure in engineering and biological materials and structures. His studies investigate structure-property connections at small scales, which lead to effective properties at larger scales, and he has explored structure-property and structure-phenomenon connections in various engineering and biological systems using computational and experimental mechanics. He has received several awards, including the Richard B. Salomon Award from Brown University in 2019 and the Haythornthwaite Award from ASME in 2016.
