Biography

Hang Lu received a B.S. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, followed by a Master’s in Civil and Environmental Engineering and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is currently the Associate Dean for Research Innovation in the College of Engineering and the C. J. "Pete" Silas Chair at the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His research focuses on interface engineering, specifically within the Lµ Fluidics Group that he leads. This research group specializes in BioMEMS (Bio Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) and microfluidic devices that tackle challenging questions in neuroscience, cell biology, and biotechnology that traditional techniques struggle to address. His expansive research interests also include microfluidic systems for high-throughput screening, image-based genetics, genomics, systems biology, and the application of microtechnologies for optical stimulation and recording. Furthermore, his work intersects with big data, machine vision, automation, and a variety of areas in neurobiology and developmental biology.
