Biography

Hang Xu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Aerospace Engineering at Concordia University. He completed his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at McGill University in August 2018. Prior to that, he earned an MSc in Aircraft Design from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and a B.S. in Aircraft Design Engineering from Shenyang Aerospace University. His research interests lie in mechanical metamaterials, lightweight structures, aircraft structure design, multi-scale mechanics, multi-material additive manufacturing, and soft robotics. Dr. Xu has held research and postdoctoral positions at prestigious institutions, including Imperial College London and Siemens Power & Gas. His teaching portfolio includes courses on mechanics of materials and aircraft design. His current projects focus on developing multi-stable structures for applications such as soft robotics and medical devices. He has published extensively in reputable journals and holds patents related to his research.
