Biography

Hangbo Zhao joined the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering in the USC Viterbi School of Engineering in 2020 and holds a courtesy appointment in the Alfred E. Mann Department of Biomedical Engineering from 2023. He was previously a postdoctoral researcher at Northwestern University and has received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research focuses on micro- and nanomanufacturing, soft electronics, and soft robotics. He has developed mechanics-driven manufacturing processes to create stretchable materials for applications in biomedical engineering and soft robotics. Hangbo's group works at the intersection of advanced manufacturing, materials, and applied mechanics, aiming to advance science and technology through a combination of fundamental understanding and innovative experimental approaches.
