Biography

Hangbo Zhao joined the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southern California's Viterbi School of Engineering in 2020 and holds a courtesy appointment in the Alfred E. Mann Department of Biomedical Engineering since 2023. He received his Doctoral Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2017, following a Master's Degree from the same institution in 2014, and a Bachelor's Degree in Precision Instrument from Tsinghua University in 2011. Before joining USC, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Northwestern University. His research interests include micro- and nanomanufacturing, soft electronics, and soft robotics, focusing on developing mechanics-driven manufacturing processes for biomedical applications. His group investigates the intersection of advanced manufacturing, materials science, and applied mechanics, aiming to advance the science and technology of manufacturing through a fundamental understanding of materials, mechanics, and interfacial science, alongside multidisciplinary experimental approaches. His focus areas encompass micro/nano manufacturing, bio-integrated electronics, soft robotics, and engineered surfaces/interfaces.
