Hanh-An Trinh is a PhD candidate specializing in Human Geography and Urban Studies at the London School of Economics. Her research examines the continuity and development discourse in Vietnam, particularly through the lens of built environment projects. Trinh is trained in mixed methodologies with a focus on spatial data analysis. Currently, her work is predominantly qualitative, involving ethnography and creative mappings. Her PhD research explores the contemporary transition of workers' housing, investigating post-socialist mass housing and modern social housing in industrial centers in North Vietnam. She aims to analyze the political and social impacts of development (dis)continuities while tracing the presence of 'future-oriented' imaginaries and the infrastructural legacy of built environment heritage in post-socialist modern Vietnam. Before joining LSE’s Department of Geography and Environment, Trinh earned an MA degree in Social Sciences with a concentration in Sociology from the University of Chicago, where she also completed her BA with double majors in Geographical Sciences and Environmental & Urban Studies. Her BA/MA thesis focused on the sociological pathways affecting the changing ethnic landscape of housing in the mountains of Northern Vietnam.
