Biography

Hani Mowafi, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor and Chief of the Section of Global Health in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Yale University. His work focuses on developing scientific practices in emergency care, particularly emphasizing low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) that face high burdens from unmet emergency healthcare needs. Dr. Mowafi is internationally recognized for his research in emergency trauma care in LMICs and has extensive experience in training, research, and program development across the Middle East and Africa. He has served as an expert consultant for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the World Bank, and the World Health Organization, being currently involved as an Emergency Care Consultant for WHO's Global Emergency Trauma Care Initiative. He co-directs NIH-funded research training programs, including the Middle East North Africa Program for Advanced Injury Research and the Global Environmental Occupational Health Hub in the region. Additionally, Dr. Mowafi is engaged in mentoring junior investigators and healthcare practitioners aiming to pursue global health careers.
