Professor Dr. Hanna Bäckström Olofsson

Biography

Hanna Bäckström Olofsson works as an Associate Professor in Social Work with a background in Gender Studies and Public Health. Her research projects include investigating public civic responses to increasing socioeconomic segregation and the empowerment of young women in Sweden. She has been involved in postdoctoral research aimed at understanding the advocacy work of Young Women’s Empowerment Centers in addressing mental health and gendered violence issues. Hanna also analyzed social services' responses to gender-based violence through a question-centered approach in her current research project. She received her PhD in Gender Studies in 2020, focusing on social work and activism within the Swedish civil society. Her studies employ feminist ethics to explore the challenges of altruistic practices in social activism, particularly through interviews with activists aiding EU citizens in Sweden. Hanna Bäckström Olofsson is a member of the Violence Crime Research group and is involved in multiple research projects running until 2026.
