Biography

Hanna Starkova is a scholar, activist, and journalist from Kharkiv, Ukraine. Since 2012, she has been working in higher education and has faced significant challenges due to the ongoing conflict in her home country. Following a full-scale Russian attack, she was compelled to leave Kharkiv. In 2022, she was awarded a scholarship to Paderborn University in Germany and taught there from 2023 to 2024. Hanna has also received fellowships from organizations in the Netherlands and Denmark. Her research interests include media studies, entertainment culture, and media anthropology. She focuses on the impact of internet memes on younger demographics, particularly within university students, analyzing perceptions of internet memes during the war in Europe. Her work aims to demonstrate that individuals must take responsibility for the content they share, regardless of its perceived seriousness or humor.
