Dr. Hanna Tervanotko

Biography

Hanna Tervanotko is an Associate Professor in the Department of Religious Studies at McMaster University, where she has been a faculty member since Fall 2017. Her scholarly work primarily focuses on the intersection of gender, sexuality, and education within religious contexts, specifically within ancient texts and practices. Tervanotko has a deep interest in women's roles in antiquity, the Qumran community, and Jewish interpretations of scripture. As a passionate researcher, she contributes to the academic discourse on how historical religious narratives shape contemporary understandings of gender and sexuality. Tervanotko holds a PhD in Jewish Studies from the University of Vienna, a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies from the University of Helsinki, and a Doctor of Theology. Her dedication to education is reflected in her teaching activities and her commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment in religious studies.
