Professor Dr. Hannah Christensen

Biography

Hannah Christensen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Oxford, leading the Atmospheric Processes group. Her research focuses on climate physics, particularly the role of uncertain small-scale processes in weather and seasonal climate predictions. By combining theoretical ideas with observational analysis and numerical modeling, she aims to enhance the capabilities of weather and climate models. Her specific interest includes uncertainty quantification in predictive modeling. Hannah co-leads the University of Oxford's Intelligent Earth Centre for Doctoral Training, which focuses on training the next generation of students to address environmental challenges through Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. She is involved in the international Model Uncertainty-Model Intercomparison Project (MUMIP), aimed at improving modeling practices globally. Hannah has received several accolades for her contributions, including the American Meteorological Society's Clarence Leroy Meisinger Award and the Early Career Scientist Medal from the International Association of Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences. She has contributed to significant publications, including a chapter in the IPCC AR6 report and serves as an associate editor for the Journal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems.
