Dr. Hannah Neuhauser

Biography

Hannah Neuhauser is a Lecturer in Musicology at the Butler School of Music, University of Texas at Austin, where she emphasizes the intersection of musicology, literature, and sociology, with a specialty focus on childhood studies. Her forthcoming book, Golden Melodies, explores the significance of pastoralism as a recurring theme in British and American children's media. This niche genre is crucial in demonstrating how children's literature reflects ideological constraints of westernized romantic childhood sentimentalism, often conveying messages that aim to domesticate children. Her scholarly works include publications in reputable journals such as Children’s Literature Quarterly and participation in exhibits and teaching courses dedicated to children's music culture. Neuhauser is a committed educator and has recently received the William S. Livingston Outstanding Graduate Student Academic Employee Award. She strives to help students develop essential lifelong skills through a pedagogy rooted in kindness and collaborative growth. She is also experienced in inclusive design and has a background as an academic writing consultant. In addition to her teaching, she volunteers as an improv theatre teacher and stage manager within Austin's artistic community.
